Here’s a nice one for you free creative sewing tutorial proposed by the very talented Anna Martinelli All Zakka style. It is a basket made by applying to the fabric. The final effect is the typical elegance of the Zakka style.
The project, as you can see, in addition to being easy to carry out (and therefore very suitable for beginners who want to become familiar with fabrics and a sewing machine) is suitable for many uses: with the use of padding you can have a basket to place in the center of the table or even one pocket emptier to keep on a shelf at the entrance to the house. Instead, by sewing only the fabric and reducing the size you can obtain baskets to use as wedding favor having fun with the application of ribbons and decorative buttons.
Necessary to make a basket as in the photo:
- 2 cuts of fabric with Zakka-style patterns and colors (linen and striped cotton for example) combined 23×23 cm
- 1 cut of thin padding 23×23 cm
- Needle and thread for hand sewing
- Sewing machine
Cut out the three squares that form the Zakka origami basket
The preferred fabric in the realization of Zakka-style projects is linen, both printed and plain. The colors of linen, even natural, are well suited to be combined with soft and pastel shades, necessary to then give that typical effect of sobriety and elegance.
Then cut from a piece of linen and some matching cotton, two squares measuring 23×23 cm. If you use smaller sizes, without padding, you can get beautiful bag favors for communion or baptism, for example.
For the origami basket proposed by Anna, also cut a 23x23cm square of common quilt padding to place between the two fabrics.
Sew
Place the padding on the work table first, then on this the two cuts of fabric placed right sides together. Machine stitch along the edge with a seam allowance of approx. 0.70 – 1 cm, leaving an opening about 10cm from which you will then turn the work over. Cut the tip of the corners so straight the work will be cleaner.
Once turned the fabric inside out, hand sewn, with the invisible point, the opening. Iron well and stitched (i.e. sewn straight along the edge about 3mm from the edge).
Create the origami bag
On the inside draw the diagonals with a fabric pen and the lines you see in the photo. So joined, on the obverse, the angle A with B and, on the opposite side, C with D.
Pin a pin and then sew a button or appliqué on the joint, depending on your imagination.
Here’s yours ready Zakka style origami bag!!
