The beauty of creative sewing is the ability to use fabrics and sewing tools to create unique ornamental objects like this flower bouquet.
The bouquet is made up of three types of flowers:
- Rosebud
- Closed tulip
- Open tulip
Fabric flowers they can be made with scraps of leftover fabric from other projects.
The more colorful they are, the more cheerful and colorful they make our bouquet!
Materials and tools to make the flower bouquet
- wooden sticks 30 cm long and 4 mm thick
- 2 rectangles of green fabric for the leaf
- 1 rectangle of thin padding
- hot glue gun
- 1 circle of fabric with a diameter of 15 cm
- ribbon 15 cm
- 2 squares of fabric 10×10 cm for the open tulip
- 2 beads
- 1 rectangle of fabric for the closed tulip
- green florist tape
- needle and thick thread
- sewing machine with basic stitches
- cushion padding
How to prepare the stem of fabric flowers
For the stem of each flower, cover a wooden stick with florist’s tape.
Simply wrap the tape around the stick so that it adheres without coming undone.
How to prepare the fabric flower leaf
Trace the shape design on the back of a rectangle of green fabric.
Place right sides together, one rectangle of fabric on top of the other. Then place everything on the thin padding rectangle.
Sew along the edge and leave the base open.
Cut out leaving a 3mm margin, cut out the tip. Iron the seam allowance left at the open base.
Turn the leaf over, iron. Sew the base and the grain.
How to make the fabric rosebud
For the bud, cut out a circle of fabric.
Fold it in half and then in half again. Leave 3 folds of fabric towards the back and one towards the front.
Sew running stitch around the perimeter, at the same time folding the seam allowance by 5mm.
Tighten by pulling the threads and fill with padding. Insert the stem and sew the edge of the bud to anchor it to the stem.
Add a ribbon tied in a bow.
How to make the “closed” tulip in fabric
For the closed tulip, cut out a 13×8 cm rectangle of fabric.
Iron a 5mm fold on the long sides, fold in two, right sides together and sew.
Iron the seam flat.
Running stitch a part of the flower to the stick and turn the flower right side out.
Fill with cushion filling and close the upper edge with needle and thread, inserting a bead.
How to make the “open” tulip in fabric
Place two 10×10 cm squares of fabric right sides together and sew along the perimeter.
Separate the fabrics and cut the square in the center that will be the inside of the flower.
Turn right side out, iron and insert the batting into the corners of the square,
Sew the opening with a needle and thread, and then pass over the 4 halves of the sides, tightening the thread until the 4 petals are formed.
Sew again to shape the flower and insert the bead. Close and fasten the thread.
How to finish fabric flowers
Once each individual flower has been made, finish with the leaf.
Glue each leaf to the flower stem, remaining at the same height.
