How To Make A Colored Wool Pom-Pom

Here is a quick and easy tutorial for making pom poms of various sizes at home using colored wool.

The sizes of pom poms can be different: large, medium or small.

Pom poms can have various uses. They are usually used to embellish winter wool hats, but they can be used for various reasons.

You can also buy them already made, but it’s so nice to choose the colors you want to use and make the pom poms yourself!!

Materials and Tools

• Thick cardboard
• Wool of different colors
• Paper scissors

Make a wool pom pom

Download the paper pattern from the site and cut out the shape of the size you want.

Glue the template onto the cardboard and cut out 2 shapes.

Choose the wool and wrap it around the doubled cardboard shapes: the more turns you make around the cut out shape, the denser your pom pom will be.

When you are satisfied, cut the thread leading to the elbow.

Using small scissors with a sharp tip, cut the wrapped threads between the two cut out shapes.

Open the two shapes at the bottom and pass a piece of wool at least 20 cm long between them.

Tie a tight knot.

Remove the cardboard cutouts.

Trim the pom pom with scissors so that it has a nice spherical shape.

Your pom pom is ready!!

ATTENTION: you can make your own pom pom using even more colored wool threads and thus obtain a multicolored pom pom!
