Here’s an easy one tutorial to knit a pair of baby booties with relative machine-sewn storage bag.
This project is a perfect example of how knitting can be combined with a machine-stitched fabric applique.
It is a’ quick and simple idea to pack a surely welcome gift to give to an expectant mother or one who has already welcomed her little loving bundle. In reality this is a model that circulates on many websites, especially English and American ones, so I’m not inventing anything new, but it still remains a simple and highly effective project in which you can indulge yourself with the choice of colored fabrics and wools.
Below you will find one free pattern and instructions for making a pair of baby shoes to be presented in a machine-sewn bag, made with the same fabric used for the appliqués.
To make these slippers was used of wool worked with 4.5 needles it’s a crochet edge made in single crochet with the same wool, but in a contrasting color. Starting from the basic pattern and the characteristics of the wool, you can make slippers of different sizes, smaller or larger than these.
The applications consist of a circle made using the same fabric used for the bag, isolating a print of it. I sewed the edges by hand chainstitching, but you can also sew the edge of the applique by machine following this tutorial.
These shoes have the following dimensions: height 4.5 – 5 cm, length of the sole of the shoe of 8 – 9 cm, width of the sole of approximately 5 cm.
Instructions
Cast on 45 stitches and for 16 rows always work straight.
On the 17th row cast off the first 17 stitches, knit 11 stitches and cast off the last 17 stitches. Fasten the yarn and start knitting the remaining 11 stitches again, so as to make a T according to the pattern below.
Continue working the central part formed by the 11 knit stitches until it reaches 8 cm in length, approximately 28 rows. Fasten the thread.
Work the edge of the T with single crochet on hook 4. Fasten the thread and hide all the tails.
Sew the fabric appliqués to the right side of the shoe. Remember that the overlapping of the sides to form the bootie is reversed for the right and left foot, they should not be mounted in the same direction.
Sew, with the wool used for the edge, the two lateral parts of the T by first matching B on D and A on C for the first shoe; therefore F on C and E on D for the second one.
The knitted shoe is ready!
Once the slippers were finished, I put some crepe paper inside to give volume and I have packaged in a simple cloth bag to create a container. The dimensions of the finished bag are 21 x 15 cm.
It is a simple rectangle of fabric folded in two. Finished the upper edges, apply the two strips to pass the tape (4 x 18 cm). Turn inside out, sew the sides and finish them with the zig zag. I also cut the corners to give depth to the bag (8 cm).
