L ‘hooded corner it is the typical corner that is made when making a tablecloth, but it can also be useful for other occasions such as when it is necessary to sew the fold of a skirt with a slit.
When I found myself needing to study this corner fold to make a tablecloth, I found everything else online, but still unclear and almost Machiavellian information and videos! So I made this photo tutorial to get and sew the hooded corner in a simple way. I hope it can be useful for you!
Advise: work on the ironing board because in addition to being able to iron easily you will be able to stick the pin in the clip and work more comfortably in creating the hooded corner.
Iron the fold and corner of the tablecloth
After basting the hem of the tablecloth, leave the corner without the basting, but iron the fold well, as shown in the photo. To obtain a regular crease I used a line cut from cardboard about 50 cm long and 2.50 cm high. Starting from the edge of the fabric, I ironed a first fold of about 1 cm and then using the cardboard I ironed a second fold of 2.50 cm. I stopped the fold with the basting, leaving the corner free as you can see in the photo.
Mark the corner point with chalk
Mark with a chalk pencil, on both sides of the crease, the point where the flaps meet in the corner, as seen in the photo. Just make two stitches, one on the lower fold and the other on the upper fold.
Open the corner and connect the dots
Now open the right side corner of the tablecloth. You will see the two points marked, at the edge of the edge, as in the photo.
Still remaining on the straight side of the tablecloth, overlap one stitch over the other and secure with a pin, sticking it into the clip of the ironing board.
Form the hooded corner
Having fixed the pin on the flannel, fix it well and iron the AOB triangle that forms on the fabric. Then take tip B and bring it to A while ironing.
After ironing, the AB line is formed which will be exactly the line to be sewn, the one which will then form the finished corner.
Once the triangle is reopened, machine stitch along the AB line and then cut at a distance of 0.50 cm as in the photo.
Turn the corner that is ready, called a hood because by inserting a finger under the corner you create the hood effect.
I hope that the tutorial was clear and showed how it is actually simple to create this type of corner, used for tablecloths, but also useful for other tailoring projects.
