This creative sewing decoration is made quickly. The steps are easy and very intuitive.
It will be fun to sew, even if you are just a beginner.
The finished gnome has the finished dimensions of 8×22 cm, but by enlarging the paper pattern it is possible to obtain different measurements.
Materials and Tools to make the gnome
- Pannolenci for the base and the body
- Nose knit – 5×8 cm rectangle
- Christmas fabric for the hat
- Beard hair
- Hot glue
- Wool Pom Pom (click here for the Tutorial)
- Cushion filling
- Sewing machine with basic stitches
- Cat litter or aquarium pebbles
Building the body of the Christmas gnome
Cut the cone of the body from the paper pattern and transfer it to the felt. Seam allowances are included in the pattern.
Cut out the beard from the hair, using the paper template. Cut with pointed scissors, keeping below the fur.
Place the beard on the body of the felt gnome and sew by machine, with a straight stitch.
Fold the cone over and sew the side, leaving an opening.
Sew the round base, always remaining on the wrong side of the project.
Turn right side out from opening.
Fill the gnome’s body with pebbles and stuffing.
Sew up the opening by hand, with a hidden stitch and meanwhile finish filling the tip of the cone as the opening is closed.
Sew the gnome’s hat
Cut out the shape of the hat from the paper pattern.
Sew a small 0.5cm fold to the round edge of the cone.
Close the shape on the wrong side and sew the side.
Turn right side out and slip it onto the gnome’s body.
Sew the gnome’s nose
To make the gnome’s big nose you need a 5×8 cm rectangle of knitted fabric.
With the running stitch, sew the perimeter of the rectangle and pull until a cavity is formed to fill with the padding.
Then sew to close the padded oval thus obtained on the back.
Glue the nose to the gnome’s body with hot glue.
Final touches to the gnome
At this point you need to make a wool pom pom.
