With this creative sewing tutorial I finally learned how to sew a square-based fabric bag by machine.
To make it I used the fabric of an old jeans and a nice fabric for the inside. Then I never stopped! Bags
This tutorial allows you to sew a very simple bag by machine, which you can embellish with aapplique or a fabric flower.
Materials and Tools
Iron the backing
If you want to give your bag greater rigidity, iron a rectangle of flizeline or thermo-adhesive fabric on the back of the fabric rectangle that will form the external part of the bag
Sew the bag
Place the two fabric rectangles right sides together and machine stitch one long side to join.
This seam will form the top edge of the bag.
Place in front of you, horizontally, the new rectangle obtained and fold it from top to bottom, matching the two ends of the seam perfectly.
Pin this side by marking, on the fabric you have chosen for the lining, a line of about 10-14 cm to leave as an opening, then machine sew this side of the bag.
Once you reach the marked line, pass back and forth a couple of times to stop the stitching, raise the machine foot, skip the line without cutting the thread and start the stitching again, always stopping the stitches as done previously. This opening will eventually be used to turn the bag upside down.
At this point, place the bag in front of you vertically and turn the fabric over so that you have the seam in the center as in the photo.
Sew the two ends of the bag, left and right.
Form the base of the bag
Position the 6 x 6 cm square of cardboard at the corners as shown in the photo, leaving the seam allowance outside. It is very important to do this, otherwise you are no longer with the closure of the fund.
Cut out the 4 squares thus marked
Folding the fabric so that the cut sides meet, as shown in the photo, machine stitch. In this way, the bottom of the bag and the inner lining will be obtained.
At this point, turn the bag inside out on the right side and sew the opening by hand using blind stitch.
For greater completeness, you can topstitch the upper edge by machine sewing, on the right side, a few millimeters from the edge.
