I really like sewing by hand and even more so being able to create projects with fabrics that have a three-dimensional shape that are not the usual squared lines.
From 11 pieces of pentagons comes this fabric boule that you can use to keep your sewing room tidy and to recycle leftover fabric scraps from other projects.
The finished size of the boule is approximately 22x22x24 cm.
By changing the size of the template you can download below, you can also change the final dimensions of this creative sewing project.
Materials and Tools
Sew a pentagon
First of all, cut out 11 pentagon-shaped shapes from the stabilizer.
Then cut out from the outdoor fabric 11 silhouettes in the shape of a pentagon, however, I add 1 cm to the sides.
Place 1 stabilizer template on a fabric template and baste.
Sew, right sides together, the shape you have just basted with the shape of the lining fabric.
Leave an opening on one side.
After sewing, turn inside out, iron and sew the opening, either by hand or by machine.
Repeat on all other shapes.
Quilt the shapes
Draw the central pentagon in the center of each shape as indicated in the paper pattern.
Extend the stitch to 3mm and sew.
Assemble the bowl
Arrange the first circle of pentagons and hand sew them together.
After finishing the first row, sew the second row of pentagons.
Sew the bias
Once you have finished sewing the last round, sew the bias tape around the mouth of the boule.
With the bias finished, your creative sewing project is finished!
