Sew a Neoprene Birkin-Like Bag

There Birkin Bag it is a bag made by the fashion house Hermes and is named after the British-born actress Jane Birkinwho usually claims that the bag has become more famous than her!

How to sew neoprene

Here are some useful instructions for sewing neoprene.

Neoprene is rubber sandwiched between two layers of polyester.

Up to 3 mm thick it can be sewn with any domestic machine, mechanical or electronic.

• Fit a 100 universal needle or for stretches of 100.
• Do not iron
• Use the standard foot or double feed foot
• Do not use pins, but tweezers because the holes remain visible
• Lengthen the stitch to 3 mm
• If it starts to curl while stitching then loosen the tension of the thread at 3.5 or 3 (if the average value of your machine is 4)

How to sew Birkin bag laces

Take a large panel from the kit and mark, at the top, left and right, the ends of a 6.5 x 7 cm cardboard rectangle.

Position the ends of each lace and sew, remaining 2 cm from the outer edge.

How to sew Birkin bag handles

Using the flap, mark the points where to place and position the handles.

Use a little hot glue to secure the handles and then sew along the curved edges.

How to sew the bottom of the Birkin bag

Sew the bottom of the bag to the two panels, positioning the parts right sides together.

Start and finish the seam remaining 1 cm from the side edges.

Position the zipper and sew with the zipper foot.
