The Granny Square Classic it is the mother of all crochet or crochet tiles.
It’s a tile used to make various crochet projects: bags of various sizes, boxes, jackets, cardigans.
In recent years, crochet tiles have come back into fashion, especially when it comes to making bags and cases.
There are dozens and dozens of schemes for obtaining a Granny Square.
What we see here is the classic model.
Very easy to makehas one structure that repeats endlessly always in the same way and we can stop when the size of the tile is exactly what we want.
To obtain an always different aesthetic effect, it is possible to use a shaded thread, in wool or cotton, or alternate threads of different colors while working the various rounds.
Materials and Tools
- Wool or cotton thread number 4 -5
- Crochet hook number 4
Start and 1st lap
Create the magic ring and inside work 3 ch., 2 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, (3 double crochets + 2 chain stitches)* and repeat * 2 more times.
Thus 4 corners are obtained.
2nd round
Work 3 chain stitches, and 2 double crochets in the arch below + 1 chain stitch.
Work the corner group in the next space, i.e. 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches and 3 double crochets + 1 chain stitch.
Repeat the end corner group 2 more times.
In the last group work only 3 double crochets and 2 chain stitches. Close the round with a slip stitch.
3rd round
You always start the round in the same way: work 3 chain stitches, and 2 double crochets in the arch below + 1 chain stitch.
A – 3 double crochets in the next space + 1 chain stitch.
B – Work the corner group (3 double crochets + 2 chain stitches + 3 double crochets) + 1 chain stitch.
Work A and B until end of round.
In the last group work only 3 double crochets and 2 chain stitches. Close the round with a slip stitch.
Subsequent laps
From this moment on the rounds are repeated in the same way. As you continue the process, between one corner group and the next, you will multiply the arches which will always be filled with 3 double crochets and 1 chain stitch.
Close the tile when you reach the desired size.
