How to sew a fabric house: Creative Sewing Tutorial

How did the idea of ​​fabric houses come about?

On a rainy afternoon, there is nothing better than brightening up your life by machine sewing a beautiful house-shaped decoration that could become a thousand things and, why not, even a doorstop.

How the house is made

First of all download and print the pattern of the project.

Cut out 2 shapes of the house: one on the adhesive backing* and on the piece of solid color fabric that you have chosen as the background of the front. The other shape of the entire house will, however, constitute the back of the project.

Start to apply the roof. Along the low roof line position the trimmings right side out, then take the piece of fabric relating to the roof that you will have cut out from the paper pattern (roof) and place it right sides together, overlapping it with the ribbon. Machine sew everything. Pass a seam also on the top of the roof.

At this point, have fun apply the door, the window and the bird that pecks the crumbs. For applications use adhesive backing*. The door handle is nothing more than a hand-sewn button. Its contours and those of the window are machine stitched with a contrasting color thread and the embroidery technique free motion to be carried out with the machine transport lowered and the appropriate foot. The bird is cut out of felt. The beak, the eye and the wing line are hand embroidered as well as the crumbs which are made with knot stitch.

At this point the chimney cap and the ribbon must be applied on which to hang the little house. For the chimney cap, simply sew the piece of fabric cut from the template with the wording backwards chimney, leaving one short side open for the cuff. Then sew in the position indicated on the pattern.

At this point take the two whole shapes of the house and sew them on the edge right sides together, machine-made as per photo leaving an open section on one side. Also sew the two corners at the base after matching the two ends.

This is how the project will look like in reverse:

Now turn the house upside down from the open side. Stuff with cotton wool or other padding e sew by hand with blind stitch, the side you left open for the lapel.
