You often see various versions of this creative sewing project online.
It’s about a padded fabric tray that can hold a cup or deep plate.
The double layer of padding allows you to hold the plate in your hands without getting burned.
In the pattern that you can download below, there are 3 sizes: large, medium and small.
You can sew the tray you want taking into account its final dimensions.
You can also choose matching fabrics for the external and internal parts.
Materials and Tools
- 2 squares of fabric 30.5 cm
- 2 x 12″ squares of batting
- sewing machine with basic stitches
- double feed foot
Prepare the fabric squares
After cutting the materials, place each square of fabric on a square of batting and sew the two diagonals to weld them together.
Sew the seams starting 1 cm from the edge.
After sewing the diagonals on each square, fold in half and mark the oblique lines of the triangle printed from the paper pattern on 2 sides.
Sew the two oblique lines thus marked and cut the seam allowance very thin.
Repeat everything on the other half.
Sew and cut the 4 pence also on the second square.
Sew the tray
After sewing the darts of the 2 squares, we sew the tray.
Place one square with the bottom inside the other, right sides together. Draw.
Sew along the edge leaving an opening.
Then cut the seam allowance of the padding and the corners. Then turn right side out.
Once the project is turned right side out, pull out the corners, and close the opening with a hand or machine stitch.
Finally, sew a 1 cm stitch along the perimeter of the edge.
The project is finished!
